The 2010 Toray Shanghai Marathon occurs this weekend in, erm, Shanghai. Once again Seiko is the official timekeeper. This is in keeping with Seiko’s grand tradition of being official timekeeper of many sporting events.
As the first official timekeeper of the Olympics in Tokyo Seiko revolutionised the way in which sporting events were timed. Using advanced electronics and various new technologies Seiko were able to offer some of the most advanced race measurements available. They’ve continued to lead the way in this field and are one of the most trusted timekeepers on the market having sponsored no less than six Olympics has well as countless athletic and long distance running events.
There’s quite an interesting website which showcases all of Seiko’s achievements in the world of sports. They have some nifty graphics showing you what they do and how they do it as well as a fairly comprehensive list of all their sponsorship deals. If you have five minutes it’s well worth a look. Check it out here.
The International Toray Shanghai Marathon begins this Sunday at 1pm local time (we think that’s the time it starts). This is it’s 14th year and organisers expect about 18,000 participants from more than 41 countries to be involved. The course has been revolutionised to make it more sightseer friendly by taking in more landmarks from both sides of the Huangpu River. They hope this will encourage more people to enter the event in the future.
