Timex tries to conquer Himalayas

A celebrated American brand of wrist watches is hoping to break the Nepali market from its base in India over the coming months, tapping into a brand new country of consumers.

Timex wrist watches could be adorning the arms of locals in the Himalayas in a strategy which looks to prove the abilities of such offerings in the face of adverse and tough weather conditions.

Speaking to the Republica, senior vice-president of Timex Group India V D Vadhwa explained that it was the perfect market to sell the wrist watches in, with Timex being famed for its Indiglo technology as well as durability.

He continued: "Nepali customers are the right clientele for Timex watches as the youth population here is attracted toward the style and technology that Timex offers."

Recently, the Rolex belonging to Sir Edmund Hillary - the explorer who trekked across Nepal to climb to the top of Everest with Sherpa Tensing - was discussed by Hodinkee, noting that the company does not advertise the white-faced Oyster in its promotions, instead stating it was the black-faced Explorer that he wore on his wrist.
