Timex to double presence in India

Fans of Timex watches in India will no doubt be excited by an announcement from the firm's head of operations in the country that it would be doubling its presence there.

Retail stores will increase in number twofold over the next 18 months to around 120 and plans have been put in place to launch at least two lifestyle products early next year to complement the vast array of Timex watches available to buyers already.

Timex Group managing director Gopalratnam Kannan said: "We plan to invest around Rs 6 crore (£772,000) on taking the number of Timex stores and kiosks to around 120, from the present 68. Of these, around 20 will be added in the current fiscal [year] itself, taking the total to 88 outlets."

The company, which also produces brands such as Nautica, operates an assembly unit for Timex watches in Himachal Pradesh, where around 1.6 million timepieces are created every year.

It follows the announcement that Fossil and Casio watches will also be increasing in number in the nation due to impressive returns from an increasingly fashion-conscious Indian market. ADNFCR-2637-ID-19440824-ADNFCR
