Seiko watches 'led kinetic green technology movement'


The world of timekeeping was made much more environmentally-friendly through a special technological introduction by Seiko watches, according to a recent report.

Tainted Green said that the creation of the Kinetic brand of Seiko watches in 1988 signalled a new era of wrist watches, with Citizen taking the mantle from its predecessor by harnessing solar energy instead.

Seiko's wrist watch idea is very simple, Tainted Green continued: "Each watch is powered by the motion of your arm. The movement triggers an oscillating weight to turn, gear trains toss this movement to a rotor, and the rotor's spin creates voltage across a coil block."

As a result, every time the so-called "steering wheel" is turned or someone reaches for something, they are powering up their rechargeable battery.

The source noted that many people complain about such watches because they are inefficient and lose time each day, though the source asserted that it would much rather have a watch being a few seconds off than spending valuable time, money and energy getting a watch battery replaced.
