Seiko takes top spot in entry brand league table


People investing in wrist watches over 2009 with a certain organisation in the US were most likely to pick up a Seiko timepiece, according to a new poll.

In the United Brands 2009 Watch and Jewelry List, the major brands were detailed in each echelon of the market, with the entry-level category this year being dominated by Seiko wrist watches.

"The top ten lists were compiled by executives, consultants and affiliates of United Brands," explained Lyle M Rose, the president of United Brands.

He continued: "We based our rankings on a variety of factors that include product quality, design commitment, consumer value, consumer recognition, brand differentiation and marketing effectiveness."

Luxury watch brands were also detailed, with Rolex, Cartier, Breitling, IWC, Franck Muller and Blancpain being the most popular high-end wrist watches bought by horology fans.

Seiko recently announced the re-launch of its Pyramid Talk clock, the 1984 design classic, though it is currently only available in Japan.
