Ladies 'seeking larger wrist watches'

Ladies' watches may typically be smaller and daintier than models for men, but it seems this trend may be changing.

According to the Australian newspaper, women are increasingly looking to buy larger timepieces to adorn their wrists.

As a result, many brands are responding to developing tastes by launching female versions of established men's watches.

The publication added that the global economic downturn has also had an impact on recent product offerings.

For instance, it said some manufacturers are trying to make their latest wrist watches appear more restrained and less ostentatious.

However, the Australian added that other companies have been "undaunted" by the financial crisis are still aiming to offer exciting and original products.

"Think bold but not flashy," it commented.

This comes after research by GfK Retail and Technology found that 7.8 million men's and ladies' watches were sold in the UK between September 2008 and May 2009.
