Watches are 'still part of time-telling revolution'

Timekeeping has evolved beyond recognition over the last century, though the most recent few years have thrown up some interesting changes for watch and clock owners, it is believed.

Writing for the Bright Side of News, Darleen Hartley noted that computers and mobile phones are regularly opted for instead of watches, given their widespread adoption since the turn of the millennium.

Despite this, Ms Hartley thinks wrist watches still provide a major market, highlighting how in 2007, the best year for watch sales was registered - just before the current economic crisis, which has impacted on nearly every industry in the world.

And even though people are looking to newer technologies to keep time, many manufacturers are responding by creating hybrids of mobile phones and watches, she concluded.

One such company is LG, which announced its first 3G touch watch phone in January, upgrading and perfecting a prototype originally presented to delegates of the Consumer Electronics Association at its 2008 conference.
