How a wrist watch feels 'is important'

Consumers who are buying a wrist watch may first consider the appearance and range of functions offered by a device - but its texture has been named as another important quality.

According to Carlomar Daoana of the Manila Bulletin, people tend to initially respond to the design of a wrist watch when they are choosing which one to purchase.

He noted that while factors such as its colour, shape and size are vital qualities to consider, its tactile properties are also worth thinking about.

"Nothing is more intimate than the sense of touch," he commented.

"If it doesn't feel good, we do a double-take on the object."

Mr Daoana added that if consumers detect roughness, an uneven texture or small nicks and bumps, they can reconsider the value of items such as wrist watches and the experience it conveys.

Ensuring that products meet consumer requirements could be important over the coming months, as the British Retail Consortium this week reported a slight drop in sales of non-food items in August.
