G-Shock wrist watches 'inspired by young mistake'

A recent product event for G-Shock wrist watches in Singapore this month has led the chief research and development engineer for the brand to discuss his inspiration for their invention with a leading newspaper in the area.

By throwing one of his G-Shock wrist watches at a target several metres away, Kikuo Ibe proved the toughness of the timepiece by demonstrating its undamaged outcome and underlining the technology and effort which has gone into the company since its creation in 1983, Today revealed.

When dropping a watch his father had given him, the 47-year-old engineer said that "the broken watch broke his heart" and noted that he had his ideas for the G-Shock from then on.

A hollow body allows the core module to be supported at a number of major pressure points to create a floating mechanism which keeps it protected from shocks, it was added.
